Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Friday administered the oath of office to Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S Venkatanarayana Bhatti as judges of the Supreme Court.
The swearing in function was held at the SC auditorium in additional building at 10 am, amid presence of all other judges and lawyers from the Supreme Court Bar Association.
With this, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has gone up to 32 as against the sanctioned strength of 34.
After the function, both the judges assumed office and joined the bench to hear the listed cases.
On July 12, the central government had cleared the names of Justice Bhuyan, who was the chief justice of the Telangana High Court, and Justice Bhatti, his counterpart in Kerala, for elevation as judges of the top court.
The five-judge Collegium has picked up the names of two judges for elevation on July 5.
