Supreme Court grants bail to Enamul Haque

SupremeCourt grants bail to Enamul Haque, the prime accused in the multi-crore cattle smuggling case. The CBI brought charges against him under several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act

Justice DY Chandrachud: we are of the opinion that continued detention of appellant in custody is not warranted. He was already granted default bail by the court in Kochi.

Justice DY Chandrachud: The appellant is in custody since Nov 2020 and chargesheets filed in 2021. Though Mr Lekhi may have submitted correctly that this is not a case of parity,

Justice Chandrachud: but having due regard to offence involved, the continued detention of the appellant who has suffered custody for over a year and two months is not warranted.

Justice Chandrachud: Thus we direct appellant be released on bail subject to terms and conditions set by the Spcl CBI judge, Asansol, Pashchim Bardhaman, West Bengal.
