Supreme Court Hearing Hijab Row

CJI NV Ramana led bench notes that the Supreme Court will intervene in the Karnataka Hijab Row matter at an appropriate time. CJI suggested that counsels should "think" if such issues should be "brought at the national level."

SC repelled fresh attempts to make hijab a pan-India legal issue and said if there is constitutional rights violation of any one it would intervene at the appropriate time. It said constitutional rights are available to each community and the SC will protect it.

Sr Adv Devdatt Kamat: This is a fresh SLP against the inteirm order passed. HC says none students should disclose religious identity. This has far reaching implications for other faiths too and not only Muslims

Sr Adv Devdatt Kamat: For example the sikhs they were turbans. This means a complete suspension of Article 25 rights. We are only saying same color uniform hijabs

CJI: We don't know the order

SG Tushar Mehta: order is not out yet

CJI: Don't spread these things to a larger level

SG: Let HC decide constitutionally.

CJI: Mr Mehta wait, we are also watching proceedings. You have to think if you want to bring this to Delhi on a national level

CJI: If some exams getting hampered and we will take it up at an appropriate time. Others matter also the same.

Adv Javedur Rehman: Exams are starting from 15th. They have now a choice between hijab and exams.

Sr Adv Kamat insists for a Monday listing

Supreme Court says it will take it up at an appropriate time

Corrigendum: Sr Adv Devadatt Kamat
