Supreme Court Sanjeev Newar FIRs firecrackers

Supreme Court dismisses a PIL filed by Sanjeev Newar seeking to quash FIRs registered over use of firecrackers during Diwali.

"How FIRs can be quashed in a PIL under Article 32?", bench asks.

Adv Shashank Shekhar Jha for the petitioner submits that multiple FIRs were filed in different states. He submits SC has clarified that there is no blanket ban on firecrackers, but FIRs are registered for even using green crackers.

SC says PIL under Article 32 petition is not maintainable to quash FIR.  Bench comprising Justices MR Shah and BV Nagarathna says that the concerned accused can take appropriate legal remedies.
