President Murmu Approves Women Reservation Bill Paving the Way for Gender Equality in Indian Politics

In a historic moment, the Women's Reservation Bill, which had previously passed through both houses of Parliament, received the approval of President Droupadi Murmu on September 29, officially transforming it into law.

According to a gazette notification from the Government of India, the Bill has now been enacted as the "Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam." It sets forth the provision to reserve one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies for women.

The legislation successfully overcame the Lok Sabha hurdle on September 20, with an overwhelming 454 MPs voting in favor, while only 2 opposed it, and they were advocating for a sub-quota for women from the Other Backward Class (OBC) and minority communities.

On September 21, the Bill achieved unanimous passage in the Rajya Sabha, with 214 MPs casting their votes in favor of this significant measure. It's important to note that the law's implementation date will be determined by a notification issued by the central government in the Official Gazette.
