2,205 cases of human rights violation unattended in Haryana State Human Rights Commission

By LawStreet News Network      26 February, 2018 12:15 PM      0 Comments

The long-standing vacancies are not just impairing the judicial bodies of our country but also the quasi-judicial bodies. A Right to Information (RTI) reply has revealed that as many as 2,205 cases of human rights violations are unattended in the Haryana State Human Rights Commission because of the vacant post of the Chairperson and other two members in the commission.

While the post of Chairperson fell vacant in August 2016 following the retirement of Justice Vijendra Jain, the two members of the commission  Justice H.S. Bhalla and former IAS J.S. Ahlawat retired in September last.

The RTI reply has further revealed that not a single case has been disposed of by the commission since September 19 last, after which the commission has received approximately 800 complains of alleged human rights violation.

Besides, 34 posts of administrative staff, including Registrar, Joint Registrar, Special Secretary and Under Secretary are also vacant.

With the acts of violence against the Dalits, women, and weaker sections of the society were on the rise in the State, the condition of the State Human Rights Commission leaves them in an even more vulnerable position against human rights violations.
