Former Chief Justice of India Ramesh Chandra Lahoti passed away on 23rd March2022, in Delhi. He served as a judge of the Supreme Court from 12th September 1998 till 31st October 2005. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of India, on the 1st of June 2004. On 1st November 2005 former CJI, Ramesh Chandra retired.
Justice Ramesh Chandra Lahoti was born on 1st November 1940 and he joined the Bar in District Guna in the year 1960. CJI Ramesh Chandra then enrolled as an Advocate in 1962. He was recruited directly from the Bar to the State Higher Judicial Service and was appointed as the District and Sessions Judge on April,1977.
For a year, he functioned as the District and Sessions Judge and later he resigned on May, 1978 and reverted to the Bar in order to practice as a Counsel mainly in the High Court.
On 3rd May 1988, he was appointed as the Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and was made a permanent Judge on 4th August 1989. On 7th February 1994, Ramesh Chandra was transferred to the Delhi High Court.
