Integration Of 'Google Meet' With Gmail Abuse of Dominant Position: Law Student's Plea Before CCI [READ PETITION]

Baglekar Akash Kumar, a 5th-year law student of Osmania University, Hyderabad has filed a plea against Google LLC and Google India Private Limited before the Competition Commission of India stating that Google has displaying wrongful dominance in the Indian market by the integration of its Google Meet app with google mail. The petitioner further stated that its a complete violation of Section 4(2)(e) of the Competition Act, 2002. Mr. Baglekar stated that during the Covid-19 pandemic while the companies are performing their utmost works via video conferencing, Google is taking such advantage by using its dominant position to out rule other competitors.

While many such cases have been filed against Google for violating the Indian competition act staging complete dominance and creating uncompetitive business scenarios, these cases have been under trial for more than 4years. The court took into consideration of this matter and ordered Google LLC as well as Google India Private Limited to probe in its defense within 150days of time.

In its defense, Google also argued that India is an open Android platform, and the installation obligations are limited in scope. The company further argued that with such orders the reputation of the company is being hampered and such orders are unacceptable in manner.
