Justice Sanjay Yadav to take charge as Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court from April 14

Justice Sanjay Yadav, who is the senior-most judge of the Allahabad High Court is appointed by the Central Government as the Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court with effect from April 14, 2021.

This decision was made, as on April 13, 2021, the term of the present Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Govind Mathur is set to expire.

The Law Ministry issued a notification which read as under:

" upon the retirement of the Present Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court Govind Mathur, the President of India in the exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India is pleased to appoint the senior-most Judge of Allahabad High Court Justice Sanjay Yadav to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court with effect from 14 April 2021."

On August 25, 1986, Justice Yadav was registered as an Advocate. He practised in the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur. He has served as the Deputy Advocate General of Madhya Pradesh. 

On March 2, 2007, he was appointed as the Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court and on January 15, 2010, he was made a Permanent Judge of the Court. 

With effect from October 06, 2019, till November 02, 2019, and from September 30, 2020, till January 02, 2021, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. 

On January 08, 2021, he was transferred to the Allahabad High Court. 

Justice Mathur started his legal career at the High Court of Rajasthan at Jodhpur as a law practitioner. He has worked as the Standing Council for the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, Indian Oil Corporation, Water and Power Consultancy Services, New Delhi. 

Furthermore, he has also worked as the Standing Council for National Teacher's Education Council, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Bhilwara Central Corporation Bank, Central Bank of India, Thar Anchalik Gramin Bank and Punjab National Bank. 

In November 2017, he was transferred to Allahabad High Court and took oath as a Judge of the Court. 

From October 24, 2018, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.  He took the oath as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court on November 14, 2018.
