A division bench consisting of Justices Rajiv Shakdher and Talwant Singh has notified that a law firm stating, cannot and ought not to run the website/blog, in respect of any proceedings, which are currently being prosecuted by it, as there is a likelihood of losing the main objectivity in the reportage of proceedings.
The petition regarding to the same was filed by Society for Tax Analysis and Research.
The bench states that the law firm should refrain from posting about the current ongoing proceedings.
The petitioners had filed the aforementioned petition before the court, requesting to direct the Central Government to extend various tax due dates, the article regarding the same was uploaded on ALA legal, which is the law firm prosecuting in this case.
The Court stated the law firm cannot and ought not to publish articles or report anything regarding the ongoing proceedings which are being prosecuted by them.
Advocate Puneet Aggarwal appeared on behalf of the petitioners. He submitted before the Court that the order dated May 25th, will be uploaded on the blog, wherein the Court had directed the petitioners to submit the suggestions of the related parties before the GST Council and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
