SC Constitution Bench Hearing From 23rd April Cancelled [Read Notice]

The Supreme Court registry by a notice dated April 22, 2019, has notified that the scheduled sitting of the Constitution Bench from 23rd April has been cancelled.

The notice is issued in supersession to the earlier notice dated 16th April which stated that a five-judge Bench comprising of Chief Justice of IndiaRanjan Gogoi  and Justices N.V. Ramana, D.Y. Chandrachud, Deepak Gupta, and Sanjiv Khanna would hear the following cases from the week commencing from 23rd April:

  • Indore Development Authority v. Manohar Lal
  • The State Of Haryana v. Maharana Pratap Charitable Trust
  • Sita Soren v. Union of India

The cases are pertaining to Section 24 of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and whether legislators enjoy immunity from prosecution under Article 192 of the Constitution of India for accepting bribes to vote in Parliament or an Assembly.
