New Delhi: In a major development for the legal fraternity, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has successfully raised over Rs 43 crore for the welfare of advocates, owing to the efforts spearheaded by SCBA President and Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal.
The substantial amount of Rs 43,43,50,001 was mobilized through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions — a key component of Sibal’s election manifesto during the SCBA presidential polls. The fund is intended to be utilized for a range of welfare initiatives including medical reimbursement, insurance coverage, and other essential benefits for lawyers.
Recognizing this remarkable achievement, the Friday Group — an academic collective of Supreme Court practitioners founded by Advocate G. Seshagiri — felicitated Sibal on April 9. The event took place at Library 2 within the Supreme Court premises and was attended by members of the legal community.
The fundraising initiative marks a significant step forward in ensuring better support systems for members of the Bar, particularly in times of health and financial distress.
