New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament began today with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

While addressing the joint sitting, President Murmu highlighted the past year's historic achievements, including India's economic growth and milestones such as the successful hosting of the G20 Summit.

President also underlined the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government in the past 10 years and said poverty was being alleviated on a large scale.

"The achievements that we see today are the extension of the practices of the last 10 years. We heard the slogan of 'Garibi Hatao' since our childhood. Today, for the first time in our lives, we see poverty being alleviated on a large scale," President Murmu said.

According to the NITI Aayog, in the 10-year rule of my government, nearly 25 crore people have come out of poverty, she said.

On the consecration ceremony of Ram Temple, the President said the decades-long wait for Ram Temple is over, with Mandir now a reality.

President Droupadi Murmu said inflation in the country was kept under control despite the Covid-19 pandemic and two major wars -- the Ukraine-Russia war and the Israel-Hamas war.

"In the past years, the world witnessed two major wars and faced a pandemic like Covid-19. Despite such global crises, my government kept inflation under control in the country and did not let the burden on common Indians increase," she said.

"Earlier, the inflation rate was at 8%, now in last ten years, it has come down to 5.10%... The government has also ensured that it doesn't burden the common man's pocket, she added.

Notably, Murmu arrived in a buggy at the Parliament House to deliver her address to the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The president entered the House with the sengol being carried in front of her.
