After day ordeal trapped workers rescued

All 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand since November 12, have been successfully rescued.

The rescue teams on Tuesday achieved a major breakthrough as all 41 trapped workers were rescued from the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi.

The laying of pipes through the rubble at Silkyara tunnel was completed after hard work of 17 days.

Rat-hole miners were seen stepping out of the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi with their drillers. Besides, NDRF and SDRF teams were seen entering with their gear to evacuate the 41 trapped workers at the collapse site.

The rescued workers will be kept under observation for 48-72 hours; Uttarakhand CM Dhami announces Rs 1 lakh to each worker as initial compensation.

Terming the success of the tunnel rescue operation in Uttarkashi as "an emotional moment", Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the courage and patience of the trapped workers calling it an "inspiration to everyone".

In November, a tunnel collapsed in Uttarkashi, resulting in debris covering a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side, trapping 41 laborers within the under-construction structure. Soon after the tunnel collapse, a swift response ensued, with rescue teams, experts, and government officials rushing to the site to initiate the rescue operation
