Dhingra launches a scathing attack on the Opposition over the impeachment motion moved by over 100 MPs against Madras High Court Judge Justice G.R. Swaminathan. A signatory to the former judges’ letter backing Swaminathan, Justice Dhingra calls the move a “brazen attempt to browbeat judges” and “demoralise the judiciary” for delivering an order that did not suit political interests. Rejecting allegations of ideological bias or “unsecular” conduct, he stresses that judicial disagreements must be resolved through appeals, not by weaponising impeachment, warning that such actions strike at the very foundation of judicial independence.
