Doctor Arrested For Sharing Derogatory Post Against BJPs Sadhvi Pragya

By LawStreet News Network      16 May, 2019 12:00 AM      0 Comments

A 38-year-old homoeopathic doctor has been arrested by Mumbai police on May 15, 2019, for allegedly posting derogatory content on BJP's Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on a social media platform.

The doctor, identified as Sunil Kumar Nishad, was arrested on a complaint filed by an activist Ravindra Tiwari, the police said.

The arrest was made pursuant to an FIR registered by Parksite Police in Vikhroli under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

A resident of Vikhroli West, Nishad was arrested for posting objectionable posts against Thakur and Brahmans on a social media platform.

This is not the first case where a person has been arrested for allegedly posting derogatory content on social media against a political figure. In a similar case, a BJP youth leader Priyanka Sharma was arrested in Howrah district of West Bengal for posting a morphed image of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on social media.

Subsequently, when the matter moved to the Supreme Court, the court termed her arrest as prima facie arbitrary and ordered her immediate release from prison.
