Centre Appoints Ex-IFS Officer YK Sinha as New Chief Central Information Commissioner

The Government of India has cleared the air by naming Ex-IFS officer Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha to be appointed as the new Chief Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission (CIC). Mr. Sinha was working as Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and the UK and currently serving as one of the Information Commissioners in the CIC.

The office of the CIC remained vacant since August 27, 2020, with the retirement of Ex-Chief Bimal Jhulka. Mr. Sinha was also the ambassador of India to Venezuela and a minister at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The file with names recommended by the PM led selection committee for the post of CIC and three Information Commissioner has been sent to the President of India for approval. A notification is expected soon.

Mr. Sinha was holding the posts of Additional Secretary of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi; Joint Secretary of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran in the MEA, New Delhi; Consul General Of India, Dubai, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India to UN, New York; Counsellor (Political), High Commission of India, Islamabad; Deputy Secretary (Pakistan), MEA, New Delhi, Director of SAARC summit, MEA, New Delhi; First Secretary of Commerce, Embassy of India, Rome; Second Secretary/First Secretary (Political/Information), Embassy of India, Riyadh; Third Secretary, Embassy of India, Cairo; Attach (Non-Aligned Movement Summit and Commonwealth Heads of Govt Meeting), MEA, New Delhi.
