The Union government has decided to withdraw three bills introduced in the Lok Sabha to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act 1872.
New bills incorporating recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home headed by Rajya Sabha MP Brij Lal will now be put before the Union Cabinet before its introduction in the house, Home Minister Amit Shah had informed the Lok Sabha.
In its report, the committee had suggested changes in the law dealing with adultery and death caused due to negligence.
The three bills to replace the IPC, the CrPC 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act 1872 with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam were introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union minister Amit Shah in the Monsoon Session on August 11 seeking to bring in a complete overhaul of colonial-era criminal laws.
After their introduction, the House sent the bills to the committee for scrutiny and asked it to submit its report within three months.
