Bar Council of Delhi Declares 2026 Election Results

New Delhi: The Bar Council of Delhi has declared the results of its 2026 elections, in terms of directions issued by the Supreme Court, with the results made expressly subject to the outcome of election petitions pending before the Tribunal(s) constituted to examine the conduct of the poll.

The declaration, issued by Returning Officer Mr. Rakesh Munjal, Senior Advocate, refers to the Supreme Court's order dated 14.08.2026 in Rudra Vikram Singh vs. Bar Council of Delhi & Anr., SLP(C) No. 21926/2026, along with connected matters, whereby the petitions concerning the Bar Council of Delhi elections were disposed of. The Supreme Court had directed the Bar Council of Delhi to preserve the entire record, including the original CCTV footage and videography recordings, and to produce the same before the Tribunal(s), while directing the Delhi Police to similarly preserve the original CCTV footage and provide a copy to the Delhi State Bar Council. The Court further directed that the results would meanwhile be declared, but subject to the outcome of the petitions pending before the Tribunal(s).

Acting on these directions, the Bar Council of Delhi has now published the list of candidates who achieved the requisite quota across successive rounds of counting. Mr. Piyush Gupta led the field, crossing the quota of 232305 votes in Round 179 with a total value of 233200 votes, followed by Mr. B.S. Jakhar, Mr. Murari Tiwari and Mr. Mahavir Sharma, each crossing the quota in the rounds that followed. Other candidates declared elected on achieving the quota include Mr. Mehmood Pracha, Mr. Rakesh Sherawat, Mr. Rajesh Mishra, Mr. Ramit Sehrawat, Mr. Sanjay Rathi, Mr. Nitin Ahlawat, Mr. R.S. Goswami, Mr. Ramesh Gupta, Senior Advocate, Mr. Rahul Sharma, Mr. K.K. Manan, Senior Advocate, Mr. D.K. Sharma, Mr. Raman Sharma, Mr. Rajpal Kasana and Mr. Kumar Mukesh, with the last three candidates crossing the quota together in Round 216.

The Bar Council of Delhi also published a separate list of the top five women candidates in order of reverse elimination. Ms. Sangeeta Sondhi led this list, having polled a total of 54400 votes before being eliminated in Round 178, followed by Ms. Yukti Rathi with 38800 votes, Ms. Amrit Kaur Oberoi with 29100 votes, Ms. Anupriya Yadav with 28500 votes and Ms. Garima Bharadwaj with 26500 votes.

The declaration records that the results have been published in terms of the Supreme Court's directions dated 14.08.2026 and remain subject to the outcome of the election petitions pending before the Tribunal(s).
