Delhi HC Grants Amitabh Bachchan Time To Formalise Settlement In Personality Rights Suit

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted time to actor Amitabh Bachchan to complete formalities and place on record a formal settlement agreement in his suit for protection of personality rights, after the parties informed it that an amicable settlement had been arrived at with some of the defendants but could not be formally signed owing to logistical issues on the part of the plaintiff.

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav passed the order in a suit which seeks a permanent injunction to secure the personality rights of the plaintiff, and the court had, by an order dated 25.11.2022, granted an ex-parte ad-interim injunction in his favour.

The court noted that, during the course of the proceedings, the parties explored the possibility of an amicable settlement through mediation. It was submitted by the appearing parties that a settlement had been arrived at qua some of the defendants, but, owing to logistical issues on the part of the plaintiff, it could not be formally signed. The court further directed that, in the event of non-settlement or incomplete settlement, if the plaintiff wishes to pursue the suit on any of the claims or issues, he shall remain personally present on the next date of hearing, enabling the court to exercise its powers under Order X Rule 2 read with Order V Rule 3 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, and Section 168 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
