Delhi HC Waives ₹50,000 Costs, Asks Counsel To Distribute Samosas And Tea To Bar Staff

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has waived a cost of Rs.50,000/- earlier imposed on the petitioners, but has directed their counsel to distribute samosas and tea to all employees of the Delhi High Court Bar Association within a week, while disposing of the waiver application.

Justice Saurabh Banerjee was hearing two applications filed by the petitioners, Indus Birra Beverages & Ors., in a criminal miscellaneous petition pending against the respondent, Ishaan Associates. The first application sought condonation of a 6-day delay in filing the second application, which itself sought waiver of a cost of Rs.50,000/- imposed on the petitioners vide an earlier order dated 20.08.2026.

The Court first allowed the application for condonation of delay, accepting the reasons stated therein and condoning the 6-day delay in filing the waiver application.

Taking up the waiver application, the Court, considering the factual matrix involved, allowed the same and waived the cost of Rs.50,000/- imposed vide the order dated 20.08.2026.

While disposing of the application, the Court, however, observed: “the present application is disposed of, however, learned counsel for the petitioners is called upon to distribute samosas and tea to all the employees of Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) within a period of one week.”
