Meghna Gulzar Files Appeal Against Patiala Court’s Order To Give Credit To Aparna Bhat In Chhapaak, Delhi HC Reserves Order

Director of Deepika Padukone Starrer Chhapaak, Meghna Gulzar filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court challenging the order of the trial court directing the makers to give credit to Aparna Bhat, Laxmi Agarwal’s Lawyer for her contributions in the film. The Delhi High Court today (January 10, 2020) reserved its judgment which it will deliver tomorrow (January 11, 2020).

Earlier, acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s lawyer Aparna Bhat had moved the Patiala House Court today seeking a stay on the release of Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak. Bhat says despite taking her help in the entire process of writing and shooting the movie, no credits have been given to her by Meghna Gulzar, especially was she was assured that credits would be given.

Patiala House Court had pronounced its order yesterday (January 9, 2020) rejecting a stay on the release of Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak but directing the makers to give credit. The news of another impediment in the release of the film comes amidst a hurricane of controversy already taking shape on twitter in the form of the hashtag #boycottChhapaak which has been trending on twitter since Deepika showed up the other night (January 7, 2020) at JNU standing in support of JNU Student Union President, Aishe Ghosh who had been brutally beaten up by alleged ABVP goons.
