PIL in Delhi HC seeks FIR on Sunita Kejriwal for sharing court hearing clips on social media, alleges criminal conspiracy

NEW DELHI: A public interest litigation has been moved in the Delhi High Court seeking an FIR on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, for posting video clippings of court hearings on social media, alleging that this was part of a preplanned conspiracy.

Sunita Kejriwal had reposted an audio recording of her husband's address to a Delhi Court in the Delhi liquor policy case (in which he is an accuses), uploaded by an X (Twitter) handle named Akshay.

The PIL filed by one Advocate Vaibhav Singh also names several social media handles that posted similar audio/video clips from Kejriwal's hearings in the Delhi liquor policy scam case.

Arguing that these social media handles which posted these clips were mostly those associated with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and some with the Opposition parties too, the plea sought a probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the incident stating that the clips maligned the image of the judiciary.

The audio and video clips of the Court proceedings were widely shared, reshared, posted, forwarded, reshared multiple times by multiple handles shortly after the hearing was over, Singh alleged.

On March 28, while being produced before Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi liquor policy scam case, had addressed the Court in person making some sensational statements.

This included the allegation that the agency was running an extortion racket for the BJP.

Calling the posting of such clips of Kejriwal's address a preplanned conspiracy to gain public sentiments, Singh pointed out that this had been done despite the fact that recording of court proceedings is prohibited under the High Court of Delhi Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts 2021.

He reasoned that neither before the date nor after it had Kejriwal presented his case in the Court in person after March 28, which showed that "presenting his case on 28.03.2024 was part of some conspiracy to gain public sentiments".

The post in regard to this audio/video recording was circulated on X erstwhile Twitter with the #MoneyTrailExposedByKejriwal. The circumstances in which the audio/video recording went viral smells deep conspiracy by the political parties to malign the image of judiciary and mislead the common people of this nation and to show the general public that the judiciary is working on the behest of government and under the pressure of the Central Government, Singh stated.

The Supreme Court of India has directed Delhi's Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to submit an affidavit concerning the halted funding of the 'Farishtey Dilli Ke' scheme, which provides free medical aid to road accident victims. Amidst claims of non-involvement by the LG's office and responsibility attributed to the Health Minister, the court aims to resolve the governmental dispute hindering the scheme's operation. The plea emphasizes the urgent need to reactivate the scheme, citing hospitals' reluctance to admit accident victims due to unpaid bills.
