Advocate Yukti Rathi Elected to Bar Council of Delhi, Emerges as One of Youngest BCD Members

Advocate Yukti Rathi has been elected to the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) after securing one of the five seats reserved for women in the 2026 Bar Council of Delhi elections. Her victory marks a significant milestone, making her one of the youngest advocates to be elected to the Council and signalling the growing participation of young lawyers in leadership roles within the legal profession.

The Bar Council of Delhi elections witnessed a closely contested race, with several senior practitioners and emerging legal professionals vying for membership. Against this competitive backdrop, Rathi's victory has attracted considerable attention within the legal fraternity, particularly because of her campaign's emphasis on advocate welfare, institutional reforms, and the concerns of junior and women lawyers.

Throughout the campaign, Rathi positioned herself as a grassroots candidate committed to making the Bar Council more accessible, transparent, and responsive to the needs of advocates. She consistently highlighted issues affecting young lawyers, including the need for stronger welfare measures, improved access to professional resources, enhanced legal education programmes, and greater institutional support for advocates at the beginning of their careers.

Coming from a family deeply rooted in the legal profession and serving as a Partner at Rathi Legal Associates, Rathi has built her practice while actively participating in legal awareness initiatives and community outreach programmes. Her work has extended beyond litigation to promoting legal literacy and expanding access to justice through public engagement.

Over the years, she has organised legal aid camps, legal awareness drives, and self-defence programmes for women and girls. She has also conducted legal literacy initiatives for students and underserved communities, seeking to improve awareness of legal rights and constitutional protections. Her association with legal media platforms and public outreach programmes has further contributed to simplifying complex legal issues for the general public.

Her campaign received support from members of the legal fraternity, including senior advocates, colleagues, and young practitioners who viewed her candidature as an opportunity to bring fresh ideas and greater representation to the Bar Council. During the election, she interacted extensively with advocates across Delhi's district courts, gathering feedback on practical challenges faced by lawyers and incorporating those concerns into her vision for institutional reform.

Beyond her legal practice, Rathi has been actively associated with organising national legal conferences, academic discussions, and social initiatives focusing on constitutional values, women's empowerment, and legal awareness. Her contributions in these areas have earned recognition from various legal and social organisations.

Her election is widely being viewed as a positive development for the legal community, particularly for young advocates and women lawyers aspiring to participate in the governance of Bar institutions. As a member of the Bar Council of Delhi, she is expected to contribute to policy discussions concerning advocate welfare, legal education, professional ethics, and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the legal profession.

Constituted under the Advocates Act, 1961, the Bar Council of Delhi is the statutory body responsible for regulating the legal profession in the National Capital Territory. It plays a crucial role in safeguarding the interests of advocates, maintaining professional standards and ethics, overseeing disciplinary proceedings, and promoting legal education and welfare initiatives.

With the newly elected members set to assume office, the Council is expected to continue addressing key issues concerning the legal profession while advancing reforms that benefit advocates and enhance the administration of justice.
