JK HC Sanctions Resident Office In New Delhi For Supreme Court Central Liaison

Srinagar: The Office of the Registrar General, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, has issued an order sanctioning the establishment of a Resident Office of the High Court at New Delhi, to be placed under the supervision and control of an officer designated as Registrar (Headquarters), New Delhi.

The order, numbered 1468 of 2026/RG and dated 18.09.2026, was issued by the Registrar General on the subject of establishing the Resident Office of the High Court at New Delhi, and sets out seven functions the Resident Office shall, inter alia, perform:

• Coordinating with the Standing Counsel and other counsel engaged on behalf of the High Court before the Supreme Court;

• Monitoring the progress of cases involving the High Court and ensuring timely transmission of records, instructions, comments and responses;

• Facilitating compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court from time to time;

• Facilitating handling of administrative and institutional matters requiring coordination at the national level;

• Maintaining regular liaison with the Registry of the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice, Government of India, constitutional authorities, judicial institutions, ministries, departments and other agencies situated at New Delhi;

• Establishing and maintaining a secure channel for transmission and handling of confidential communications and sensitive matters requiring direct interaction between the High Court and the Supreme Court; and

• Performing such other functions as may be assigned by the Chief Justice from time to time.

The order further specifies that the Resident Office shall function under the supervision and control of the Registrar (Headquarters), New Delhi, who shall be responsible for its administration, coordination and effective functioning, and shall report to the Chief Justice through the Registrar General.

The order was issued by M.K. Sharma, Registrar General, and has been endorsed for information and necessary action to a wide list of authorities, including the Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice, the Secretary to the Government Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs at Srinagar, the Consultant/Secretary, Department of Law and Justice, UT of Ladakh, various Registrars and officers of the High Court at Srinagar and Jammu, and the Chief Accounts Officer, with a request that it also be uploaded on the official website of the High Court.
